File Transfer On Android, iOS and Windows

Sharing files from one mobile device to another with both device running the same mobile operating system is quite easy and straightforward even if it is a large file. There are lots of apps on the web that make it easier to transfer files and data between two device with either bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection, and some file managing apps i.e ES File Explorer are quite capable of doing the job as well, but what about transferring files on different mobile operating system? That is an entire different case.

There are some operating systems that allow file transfer without any restriction. For instance, sharing files from Java phones to Android phones can be done using bluetooth connection without requiring any additional app, so likewise from BlackBerry to Android (though sharing large files is not encourage).

While it is easy on some it is difficult on others, transferring files directly from Android to iOS or vice versa is simply impossible without additional app to fill the gap and that's what we will be talking about today.

There are two methods we will be focusing on, both requiring different apps.

It allow users to transfer large files to anyone across the world with no fees attached. Perhaps the most interesting thing about Smash is that no registration is required to use the service.

Also, there are no limits to size and amount of files that can be send. To get started, simply visit Fromsmash and enter your email, a link will be sent and from there you can upload your files and send it to your recipient. Uploaded files are saved on their server for seven days before they will be removed.

How To Extract Contents Contained Within An Apk File

How do we extract the media contents of an Android Apk file or application, the audio and picture files contained within without using any software? First, we think you should know what Android APK is.

What is Android APK? In a simple term, APK can be describe as an extension of Android application file, just as .jar is an extension of Java and .sisx/.sis are extensions of Symbian file. The extension here means, the unique characters that appear after the period (.) in a full file name specific to a certain program, in this case which is Android. In another point of view, the codes, files and data contained within an Android apk file is what makes it an application.

While an Android application only appear as a single apk file, there are combination of codes (mostly encrypted) and data inside that gives it a structure. The codes contain a set of rules that triggers and guide the delivery of what the application is based on. Because APK extension is specific to Android operating system, only device on Android platform can run applications with apk file extension. For the Android apk file to unleash what it is made for, it must first be install as an application on the Android-capable device.

Now that you know what Android APK file and extension (.apk) are, how do we get into the contents within its wall (I mean the data part here and not the code) without installing it, without any software? You might ask, what are the benefits and advantages involved. Let me put it this way. You download and install an Android game, launch it, and you discover you love the song, music or instrumental playing in the background while you were kicking the bad guys. You realize you won't mind doing anything just to get your hands on the song. That is where this tutorial comes in.

Unlike other mobile operating system extensions, apk seems the most easiest to break through. Just get yourself any file explorer with zip/rar compression and extraction feature and the job is half done. Most File manager or explorer can penetrate into any apk file to reveal the contents within just like zip and rar files. Android file manager such as ES File Explorer, MiXplorer, X-plore just to mention few can do the trick. The good news is root is not required.

Before we proceed, it is necessary to warn you that making use of other people, companies or groups data for personal gain or commercial use without permission is illegal and punishable under law. This tutorial is meant to educate only. We will not be held responsible for any event that may precede the information given below.

We will be using ES File Explorer for Android as our file manager in this tutorial (version 3.2.5.3 to be specific). We recommend you use ES File Explorer as well. If you already have the app you want to break-through installed on your Android device, you will need to first get its Apk file before you can dive into its core. Fortunately, you do not need to download its apk file again as we will help you to achieve that by simply following the steps below. If you already have the apk file or apk installer, just jump to the next step.

Launch ES File Explorer from the app drawer on your device

Click the menu button at the top left corner or simply swipe a finger from far-left to the right (gesture)

Select "Library" from the menu that opened and click on "APP"

The list of applications installed on your phone will be displayed

Click and hold the application you want to have its apk file (you can select multiple apps at once)

Select Backup from the list of options that shown under the screen. The process will start

To view the apk file of the application you have just backed up, simply go to the memory card root folder -> Backups -> Apps and you'll find it there.

How to extract media files contain within an Android Apk file/installer

Before we proceed, there is something you should know. In most Android apk file or application, the media files such as picture and audio are usually placed within the assets and res folders. Look for these two folders first before you check other folders within the Apk file. In a rare occasion, you may find two res folders inside the apk file, check both folders. The res folder inside assets folder in most cases usually contains the media files. Inside the assets folder you may also find a folder named data, this sometimes also contain the media files.

Locate the Android Apk app file you want to extract its content in ES File Explorer

Click on it and hold, a menu will show at the bottom of the screen

Click "More" from the menu that shows and select "Open"

In next screen that shows up, select "EZ Zip Viewer"

Locate "assets" from lists of folders that display, if you find res within this folder then you are on the right path

Click and hold the res folder, then click the extract button that shows under the screen

Choose path and select the folder in which you want to extract the contents

That's it.

Now that you have extract the res folder where the media contents of the apk file is located, the next part is to identify the media files among other files within the res folder. This require skills as most time the media files are named in alphanumeric or in random letters that mingles well with other files within the folder. Also, in most cases, the extension of the media files are removed, so, it is hard to tell which of the files are media files and which are not. But don't worry, we will give you a head-start.

File size is one of the factors that can reveal those that are likely to be a media file and those that are not. An ordinary file that contain a set of codes shouldn't weigh more than 500 kilobytes. You should start from the heaviest files in the folder to the lightest files. This will be easier to do on a PC than on a smartphone, but if you are good on mobile phone then that's fine. Just click and open each file within the res folder until you identify those that are media files.

Please Note: Some games that requires additional data to be downloaded before they can work usually store their media files in a separate folder located in the phone external storage and NOT in the game apk installer. E.g FiFa game series. Getting the media files of such games is also easy. You'll need to catch up with us on our next tutorial to learn that.

If you are yet to understand how to track and extract the media files contained within an apk file when reading this tutorial, we are here to make it easier for you to grab. We feel the need of updating this post because many still don't get it right, and this time with a real life example.

You will need to read the article from the beginning to understand this part.

In the picture above, the apk file in number "1" is Candy Crush Saga (version 1.63.0.2). That is the app we will be using as an example. ES File Explorer is the file manager.

1.) The Candy Crush apk file is placed in one of the folders on the phone storage. ES File Explorer is used to navigate to where the apk file is. Long-clicking on the file brings out menu which can be seen below the screen, among the options is "More". Selecting "More" brings out another options which includes "Extract to".

2.) The "Extract to" is clicked and that brings out a tiny window with three options:

i. Candy Crush Saga

ii. Current Path

iii. Choose Path

In this case the "Current Path" was chosen. Selecting this option will extract the contents within the apk to the same folder where Candy Crush apk file is.

3.) The extraction has began. This might take some time.

4.) The extraction is complete. Now in the same folder where the Candy Crush Saga is we have four new folders and three files:

i. assets

ii. lib

iii. META-INF

iv. res

v. AndroidManifest.xml

vi. Classes.Dex

vii. resources.arsc

The "res" folder doesn't contains what we are looking for so we dive into the "assets" folder.

5.) In the "assets" folder there is another folder named "res_output". We look into this folder.

6.) And here we are, we have what we are looking, the "Sound" folder.

7.) Diving into the "Sound" folder leads to two new folders, "sounds" folder and "music" folder, and two files "music.xml" and "sounds.xml". The "music" give us a clue that we are near to our target. In this case we opened the "music" folder.

8.) And there we have them, all the music files in the game. ES recognize these files as audio files because they all ends with ".ogg" which is an audio file extension. Some Android apps may choose to use ".mp3" or even ".mp4". In rare cases, the audio extension file may be removed. If removed, it might be difficult to know which is an audio file and which is not. In this case, you might "sort" the files by "size" and start from the heaviest, then open it one by one with a music player.

9.) Clicking on one of the audio files, ES brings out audio players that can play the file. In this case we choose "Music" which is our Android pre-installed audio player.

10.) The file is playing.

The Pocophone F1 or Poco F1 is the first smartphone from Xiaomi's sub-brand Pocophone. It's been dubbed as the 'Master of Speed' since it offers the top of the line Snapdragon 845 chipset at less than $300.

POCO F1 comes with a 18.7:9 display with rounded-corner with 6.18" FHD+ specially with a notch on the top and you can hide the notch. The display supports night mode and affords color temperature adjustment. The special edition of Poco F1 which is the POCO F1 Armoured Edition is made from Kevlar Aramid Fiber, imported directly from DuPont USA, will take durability to a whole new level. Tracfone LG Rebel 4 Review

Another generation from the LG Rebel lineup has been released from Tracfone - and just six months since the previous version.

The LG Rebel 4 features a 5" touchscreen, quad-core processor, and Android 8.1 Oreo. It brings some modest upgrades to the previous version, the Rebel 3. At this time the Rebel 4 CDMA version is available but we do expect a GSM version (L211BL) in the near future.

The Rebel line of phones has been a popular budget smartphone from Tracfone with a smaller screen size compared to most of Tracfone's offerings. We were a little surprised to see the Rebel 4 released in the same year that the Rebel 3 became available to Tracfone users but it appears that Tracfone is speeding up the release of new phones for the fall season.

There is not a lot that is different between the Rebel 3 and Rebel 4, but we will cover that in detail further on. For now, let's look at the pro's and con's for the Rebel 4.

One of the issues that may arise for some users is the low storage and RAM on the Rebel 4. We hope Tracfone will release more devices with increased storage and additional RAM at a reasonable price but that is not the case with the Rebel 4.

It is very good to see the Rebel 4 features the latest Android OS (at this time) with 8.1 Oreo. That's a nice improvement over the previous model, and only the third phone from Tracfone with this Android version.

While the Rebel 3 and 4 share a number of similarities, the Rebel 4 does have several upgrades that does make it a faster and more desirable phone. We will cover more about these differences further below.

LG is a global electronics company operating in many different segments of the market including the mobile phone market. They are based in South Korea and are well known for offering a variety of different smartphones from high-end to budget that generally have good features and quality.

The LG Rebel 4 is by far one of their most budget friendly options, with many more options available with more performance at a higher cost. The LG V30, for example, has 64 GB internal memory, a larger screen and dual rear cameras, but retails for $499.

LG Rebel 4 Review (L212VL/211BL)

Touchscreen
The screen on the LG Rebel 4 is a 5" TFT (IPS) panel with HD resolution (1280x720). Clarity and color are both good for a phone in this price range and the DPI is just under 300 which is also good.

There are not very many new smartphones with a screen this small, as most devices now feature 5.5-6" touchscreen displays. However, not everyone wants such a large device so the Rebel 4 fits the size requirements for some users very nicely. For a slightly larger screen, the LG Premier Pro is an option.

Internal Specs - Processor, RAM and Memory
The Quad-Core 1,4 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 in the Rebel 4 is a popular processor for budget friendly smartphones as it provides a good balance between power, performance and long battery life. It is not built to run the most demanding games, but it does a good job on everyday activities like social media apps and games.

Tracfone LG Rebel 4

Along with the processor the Rebel 4 has 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage. Most Tracfone devices released over the last year or two have featured this and these days it just really isn't enough, especially the internals storage, to keep up with the needs of most users. We really would like to see Tracfone release a phone along these lines but with closer to 32 GB storage.

For those looking for more internal storage, consider getting an unlocked device like the Moto G6 and bring it to the BYOP program.

Camera
While the camera specs on the Rebel 4 are similar to the Rebel 3, there are some improvements and additional features. The rear 8MP camera has flash, autofocus and burst shot while the front 5MP camera has selfie light, gesture shot and more.

Battery
With a relatively small 2500 mAh battery the Rebel 4 can't keep up with phones like the Moto E5 as far as battery life, but it will generally last through a full day with low to moderate usage thanks to the smaller screen and efficient processor. The battery is removable, which is nice to see.

Android OS
Android 8.1 Oreo brings a number of graphical changes and performance improvements over previous versions. It is used by most Android phones at this time with the newer, Android 9 Pie, currently in the works.

Tracfone doesn't update the OS on their smartphones, so it is always a good idea to buy a phone with the latest Android version when possible to avoid possible security issues.

Triple Minutes
The Rebel 4 does not include Triple Minutes for Life because Tracfone stopped including this with newer phones in 2017. Learn more in our post, Tracfone Ends Triple Minutes for Life.

Conclusion
The Rebel 4 is a budget friendly smartphone with a smaller screen compared to most phones and good performance and specs to keep up with most daily activities. It doesn't really have and features that 'wow' but rather is a solid smartphone like the previous versions.

At $99, it is hard to recommend it over the recently released Moto E5 which shares a number of the same specs (like Processor, RAM, Memory) but has a larger, 5.7" screen, larger battery and is also $99. But for users who don't like such a large screen, this may be a good option.

LG Rebel 3 VS LG Rebel 4

How does the Rebel 4 compare to the Rebel 3 it replaces and is it worth upgrading? Let's take a look.

Both phones have a quad-core processor but the Rebel 4 has a newer and slightly faster version. They share the same amount of RAM, internal memory and screen size, but the Rebel 4 has more resolution for better clarity.

The Rebel 4 see's several other small improvements including newer Android OS, slightly higher Mega Pixel count on the rear camera, and newer Bluetooth connectivity.

We expect to see some deals available in the near future for the Rebel 4 but until then wouldn't really recommend upgrading to it if you already have the Rebel 3 as it would be a modest upgrade.

Almost all aspects have been upgraded to meet the Pro naming except the battery of course, which is not a deal breaker considering its dirt cheap price.

The Realme 2 Pro as called, features a 6.3-inch Full HD+ Dewdrop LCD display and is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 660 chipset, clubbed with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of expandable storage. At the rear is 16MP+2MP dual camera, while it bears another 16MP camera at the front.

The phone runs Color OS 5.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo; has a dedicated dual SIM slot with dual 4G VoLTE supports, and is backed by a 3500mAh battery. It has a fingerprint sensor at the back in addition to face unlock security feature embedded in the front camera.

HP EliteBook notebook series is one of the top notch in the business laptop category when it comes to quality and security. The aluminium body, fingerprint sensor, night light, dual battery supports, and enhanced security features made them stand out from the rest of the consumer laptops. But with the introduction of Windows 10 in 2015, there have been some hiccups in functionality on some of the older EliteBook models.

The Windows 10 brought its own fingerprint authentication via the Windows Hello functionality, which unfortunately does not support some old hardware. This caused a lot of issues including the fingerprint sensor not working on some of the HP EliteBook models, including the EliteBook 8460p and 8560p, after upgrading to Windows 10, either from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.

Today, we will be providing a fix for fingerprint sensor not working on these laptops. This tutorial will help those who are having difficulty using the fingerprint sensor on the following EliteBook models running Windows 10:

The above list all have one thing in common, and that is they used the same fingerprint sensor hardware made by Validity. Unfortunately, the old validity fingerprint driver that enabled the fingerprint sensor to function on Windows 7 does not support Windows 10. So, in this case a new Validity driver needs to be installed for the fingerprint sensor to work on Windows 10.

There is another thing we want to point out. Previously, the HP Protect Tools is the software program that provide the interface for the fingerprint enrollment and enabling of other security measures. But now, the software has been renamed to HP Client Security Manager. HP Protect Tools no longer work on the aforementioned EliteBook models running Windows 10. Using the fingerprint sensor now requires HP Client Security on Windows 10.

Let's get started

First, you will need to download and install the following software:

P.S: Please remove/uninstall previous programs (Protect Tools, Validity driver e.t.c) before installing the software listed below.

HP Validity Fingerprint Sensor (SP66915)

HP Client Security Manager

Now proceed to the following steps:

Client Security login

Step 1

Open the Client Security Manager and enter your Windows password to login

HP Client Security home menu

Step 2

Select "Fingerprint" from the main menu

Enter Windows password

Step 3

You will be asked to re-enter your Windows password, simply fill the input box with the details

Fingerprint enrollment

Step 4

In the next window you will be asked to enroll your fingerprint. Swipe your right hand thumb on the fingerprint sensor to start the enrollment.

Please Note: You will need to swipe your finger three times on the fingerprint sensor for the fingerprint to be fully enrolled.

Step 5

Enroll the second finger by swiping the finger three times on the fingerprint sensor. You can enroll as many fingerprint as you want by selecting the "Enroll an additional fingerprint" option

Enrollment completed

Step 6

Click the "Finish" button to save and activate.

Step 7

Now go back to the home menu, click the "Settings" button at the top right of the window

Step 8

Select "security features"

One step logon enabled

Step 9

Tick the "Windows Logon Security", "Power-on Authentication", and "Allow One Step Logon" boxes to enabled, then Apply

Restart the system

Epson Philippines unveiled its latest innovations on business laser projectors, EcoTank inkjet printers and large-format printers through the 'Grand Launch: Innovations that Dominate' held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in BGC, Taguig City on September 25, 2018.

The introduction of the new models of Epson's business laser projectors, SureColor T-series of technical printers, as well as EcoTank printers, the new brand name for Epson Ink Tank printers, marks the company's full force commitment into penetrating the corporate market while maintaining its consumer base presence.

"As a tech company, we are dedicated to delivering the precision and performance that companies need to achieve their business goals. The launch of our new inkjet printers and projectors is our way of strengthening our efforts to further enable our customers in exceeding their vision," said Christopher Sanchez, Sales Director, Epson Philippines.

Business Laser Projectors

Starting from the new business laser projectors, the EB-L510U, EB-L610U, and EB-L610W deliver bright and true-to-life colors thanks to Epson's 3LCD technology. This series of laser projectors have a brightness range of 5,000 to 6,000 lumens. They also come with the WUXGA feature, which has a display resolution of up to 1920x1200 pixels perfect for larger screens.

The new projectors also have a laser light source technology of up to 20,000 hours and flexible lens shift with center lens position, providing virtually maintenance-free experience for the users.

These new laser projectors are also compatible with a wide range of external devices. The additional ports, which now include HDMI and HDBaseT™ Connectivity, are ideal for large venues, may it be in large classrooms or meeting rooms.

The HDBaseT™ can transmit Full HD video, audio, and control at low cost through a single cat 5e/6 cables or higher, up to 100 meters. These features provide a better and more efficient viewing experience for the users through its seamless connectivity and usability.

Entry EcoTank L-Series Printers

Meanwhile, the newest additions to Epson's Entry EcoTank L-Series printers are the L3110 and L3150, which feature key specs improvements.

These printers are also among the first set of units that were unveiled after the recent branding of Epson Ink Tank printers as EcoTank printers, featuring the revolutionary ultra-high-capacity ink tank system, which replaces cartridges.

The Epson L3110 and L3150 printers have an integrated ink tank design that comes with a spill and error-free ink refilling process and produces a smaller carbon footprint compared to its predecessors, L405, L360and L80 models. They are also more compact while boasting an ultra-high page yield of up to 7,500 pages of color printouts, as well as up to 4,500 pages of black printouts. The L3110 and L3150 printers also have borderless printing of photos of up to 4R size.

Furthermore, the new L3150 can connect to up to eight devices, making it easier for users to print and scan directly from their mobile devices.

Mono EcoTank M-Series Printers

Meanwhile, Epson brings three new models to its EcoTank Monochrome series printers, namely M1100, M1120, and M2140. The flagship M2140 printer now incorporates the PrecisionCore print head, bringing improved nozzle technology with increased print resolutions at 1200 x 2400 dpi and water-resistant printouts with sharper texts. These printers boast of their pigment ink, suitable for printing business-quality documents.

The new Monochrome series printers also have a print speed ranging from 15ipm and 20ipm, which is on par with entry laser printer models. As compared to laser printer models that use heat technology, the Monochrome series produces lower power consumption, which translates to a lower electricity bill and less carbon footprint.

Other key specs of the new models include integrated ink tank design; shorter initialization time; easy, spill-proof, and error-free design; and Barcode Printing Mode, which allows them to print using a barcode.

Lastly, Epson also expands its Technical Printer product line, the SureColor T-Series, to the entry-to-mid-range printer market with four new models all under a 3-year warranty.

The new printers – Surecolor T3130 / T3130N 24", SureColor T5130 36", SureColor T3430 24", and SureColor T5430 36" – feature PrecisionCore Micro TFP Print, along with the UltraChrome XD2, a four-color all pigment ink that deliver prints with vibrant colors and lines for corporate product and CAD/GIS print.

In this series of printers, users will see a combination of features, including 4.3" LCD Color touchscreen, versatile media handling, and anti-dust design. The new printer models also have integrated connectivity (WiFi Connect, AirPrint, USB direct print), allowing users to be virtually connected anywhere with the capability of connecting to any of Epson's A3 scanners for a more seamless printing.

Business Laser Projectors

The new projectors also have a laser light source technology of up to 20,000 hours and flexible lens shift with center lens position, providing virtually maintenance-free experience for the users.

Entry EcoTank L-Series Printers

Meanwhile, the newest additions to Epson's Entry EcoTank L-Series printers are the L3110 and L3150, which feature key specs improvements.

Furthermore, the new L3150 can connect to up to eight devices, making it easier for users to print and scan directly from their mobile devices.

SureColor T-Series Technical Printers

Lastly, Epson also expands its Technical Printer product line, the SureColor T-Series, to the entry-to-mid-range printer market with four new models all under a 3-year warranty.
